As most of you already know, the current Coronavirus pandemic has caused Elite to move completely to online teaching. This has been a challenging but also interesting experience, and we hope that everyone is enjoying learning from the comfort of their own home, as much as we are teaching! So far it has been successful with students and teachers able to continue like normal without any difficulties and it has become clear that Elite could continue to offer online teaching long into the future, even after the virus has subsided.
Amongst many changes for the interns, the biggest has been the decision to use this opportunity to return home to spend time with our families and continue teaching from the UK. The four Interns travelled to a very empty airport together last Friday (19th March) and said our goodbyes for now, until we’re back again in Esparreguera in the near future!
We all travelled on a bus that had a total of six passengers (including the four of us) into Barcelona, then on an empty metro to an empty airport. The departures board was very empty, as our flights were the last to leave Barcelona for a while. Antonia and Hannah were on a flight with only 9 people, which was surprising as they were flying into the biggest airport in the UK. They were offered up business class seats, and complimentary food and drinks the whole flight – definitely living the life of luxury! Curtis and Alexandra didn’t quite get the same luxury treatment on their Ryanair services, however the empty flights were enjoyed all the same. Curtis flew with 6 others and Alexandra with 15!
It seems as though we’ve brought the lockdown back with us to the UK, as only 3 days after arriving back, the government has enforced measures to stop us leaving our houses unless necessary, very similar to what was happening in Spain when we left – we should have just stayed!
The biggest change for us has been the weather. It’s absolutely freezing here!! We’ve had to dig out the winter coats once again, but the sun is shining and we are all pretending that the weather outside our quarantine is as warm and tropical as in Esparreguera. We’re all sad to be at home but can’t wait until this blows over and we’re back to sunny Spain!

Como la mayoría ya sabéis, la pandemia actual de Coronavirus ha provocado que Elite pase completamente a la enseñanza en línea. Esta ha sido una experiencia desafiante pero también interesante, y esperamos que todos estéis disfrutando del aprendizaje desde la comodidad de su hogar, ¡tanto como nosotros estamos disfrutando enseñando! Hasta ahora, ha tenido éxito con estudiantes y profesores capaces de continuar normalmente sin ninguna dificultad y ha quedado claro que Elite podría continuar ofreciendo enseñanza en línea en el futuro, incluso después de que el virus haya desparecido.
Entre los muchos cambios para los interns, lo más importante ha sido la decisión de aprovechar esta oportunidad para regresar a nuestros países para pasar tiempo con nuestras familias y continuar nuestro trabajo desde el Reino Unido. Los cuatro interns viajamos juntos desde un muy vacío aeropuerto en Barcelona el pasado viernes (19 de marzo) y se nos despedimos por ahora, ¡hasta que volvamos a Esparreguera en breve!
Todos viajamos en un autobús que tenía un total de seis pasajeros (nosotros cuatro de ellos) a Barcelona, para hacer transbordo luego a un metro vacío y acabar en el aeropuerto, vacío también. La pantalla de salidas estaba desierta, ya que nuestros vuelos fueron los últimos en salir de Barcelona por un tiempo. Antonia y Hannah estaban en un vuelo con solo 9 personas, lo cual fue sorprendente porque volaban al aeropuerto más grande del Reino Unido. Se les ofrecieron asientos en clase ejecutiva, y comida y bebidas gratis durante todo el vuelo, ¡definitivamente saborearon la vida de lujo! Curtis y Alexandra no recibieron el mismo tratamiento de lujo en sus servicios de Ryanair. Sin embargo, sí disfrutaron de vuelos vacíos. ¡Curtis voló con otras 6 personas y Alexandra con 15!
Parece que hemos traído el confinamiento con nosotros al Reino Unido, ya que solo 3 días después de llegar, el gobierno ha implementado medidas para evitar que salgamos de nuestras casas a menos que sea necesario, muy similar a lo que sucedía en España la semana pasada. ¡Deberíamos habernos quedado!
El mayor cambio para nosotros ha sido el clima. ¡Aquí hace mucho frío! Hemos tenido que taparnos, pero hace sol y todos hacemos ver que el clima fuera de nuestra cuarentena es tan cálido y tropical como en Esparreguera. ¡Estamos tristes de estar en casa, pero estamos impacientes de que esto termine y volvamos a la soleada España!
